‘Join as a Servant’: Director Ariane Mnouchkine talks to Elisabeth Borne

To find out more about the hardships at work, director Ariane Mnouchkine calls on Élisabeth Borne to commit to eight days as a waitress.

This Saturday, Ariane Mnouchkine, founder of the Théâtre du Soleil, marched against the pension reform, currently under debate in the National Assembly, among tens of thousands of protesters in Paris.

“Thousands of people are demonstrating because it is unfair that people who have already had a difficult life have a retirement that will make their lives even more difficult. It should be the opposite,” explained the director, before sending a message to Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne. :

“Take eight days and hire yourself as a waitress in a big hotel, you will learn more in the hard work than in all your studies.”

“Human Culture”

For Ariane Mnouchkine, Elisabeth Borne is “a competent woman, with a lot of erudition and political culture”.

“But what is important is human culture as well. I’m sure a lot of hotels would give her the opportunity to do eight days, with 84 or more beds per day, and she’ll see if she wants to continue to 65.” she continued.

This Saturday some 963,000 people marched in France on Saturday against the pension reform, including 93,000 in Paris, according to the Interior Ministry, figures higher than those on Tuesday when the authorities had counted 757,000 protesters nationwide.
