Meyer Habib has no intention of leaving his seat. After the invalidation of his election by the Constitutional Council for “irregularities”, the former deputy (relative to LR) is represented in the 8th constituency of French residents abroad, which includes several Mediterranean countries, including Greece, Israel, Italy and Turkey.
Close to the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, Meyer Habib will once again face Macronist Deborah Abisror-de Lieme, during partial legislative elections organized on April 2 and 16.
“I will not give in to any intimidation, I will not break any of my commitments, I will remain at your service,” Meyer Habib explained on Monday.
“I am going to win again, which will be the most scathing denial of the lies and slander of my disloyal opponent,” continued the exelect.
“Irregularities” and “maneuvers”
The Constitutional Council had canceled his election in early February due to “irregularities” and “maneuvers” by his supporters “that could alter the sincerity of the ballot”: “messages calling to vote” for the candidate on election day or calls during which “Voters may have been irregularly offered to vote online instead.”
Meyer Habib is also the subject of an investigation for “embezzlement of public funds”, following a report by Tracfin, investigators suspect irregularities in the remuneration of his parliamentary collaborators.
A victory by 193 votes
In June, the 61-year-old deputy obtained only 193 votes more than her opponent, Deborah Abisror-de Lieme (Renaissance), gathering 50.58% of the votes against 49.42% for her constituency, which she has represented since 2013.
After the invalidation of the elections, Deborah Abisror-de Lieme was delighted that “the highest French court put an end to years of illegal maneuvers practiced by Meyer Habib.”
