Ventura welcomes PSD’s “approach to positions” at Chega, even without meetings

Chega’s president pointed out an “approach to positions” of the PSD to his party on Monday, saying that Luís Montenegro, even without meetings, has already dropped some “red lines” on immigration and social security support.

“If you are going to use Chega’s flags and say what Chega’s president says, it’s even better. He doesn’t want to meet me, but he already says what I say, imagine after meeting me he goes out of there and says that we will have a very strong right-wing government in Portugal in the coming years,” said André Ventura, questioned by journalists on the sidelines of a meeting with the mayor of Loures, about World Youth Day.

In particular, Ventura was asked if Luís Montenegro’s recent statements about immigration and about the income of people on social security benefits were an attempt to clear Chega’s flags.

“It tries, but it can only empty the PSD’s. The PSD has always said it couldn’t talk to Chega because there would be three or four red lines, including immigration or social security support,” he replied.

For André Ventura, “the leader of the PSD can say in another way what Chega says and the president of Chega can only mean that there are no red lines”.

“We are on the right track to form a government, I note this ‘mea culpa’ from Dr. Luís Montenegro, who is back with the PSD. welcome immigrants, receive those who can – Chega is not against immigration, I hope PSD isn’t either – and of course that gives immigrant communities the privileges to work and integrate,” he said.

Asked about the PSD president’s repeated refusal to meet him, André Ventura felt it was a “personal question” to ask Luís Montenegro, but devalued this aspect.

“It is clear that this PSD is a PSD that is making an effort to get closer, because it realized that the right has these positions and realized that it can only govern on the right,” he stressed, saying that the party is returning to the path that the previous leader, Rui Rio, prevented him from following, that of “a PSD who wants to be right”.

“Later we will see who leads the right. At the moment it is still the PSD in the polls, but we hope that very soon it could be Chega. For now, this approach to positions is a very positive sign,” he saluted.

On Sunday, the PSD chairman found “immoral a society in which people who work reach the end of the month and earn less than people who don’t work”.

“While we don’t want to let anyone down, the worst thing we can do is to discourage those who produce, those who work, those who have a chance, who give their best and who reach the end of the month and have less .” income than those others who do not make this effort,” defended the social-democratic leader at the close of the Congress of Social-Democratic Workers (TSD).

On the same occasion, Luís Montenegro defended that Portugal should “attract qualified workers as soon as possible” and believed that foreign citizens should bring their families.

Montenegro had defended in Guarda on Thursday that the country should receive immigrants “in a regulated manner” and “search around the world” for communities that can better relate to the Portuguese.
