Communists, environmentalists and socialists. Everyone yesterday condemned the words of Aurélien Saintoul, who this Monday in the chamber of the National Assembly accused the Minister of Labor of being a “murderer.” Following this new session incident during the debates on the pension reform, the LFI deputy apologized to Olivier Dussopt and discussions on the government project resumed.
But the speeches of the presidents of the Nupes groups, outraged, underscore that a line has been crossed by the elected rebel.
André Chassaigne “shocked”, “hurt and humiliated”
“Making such statements is unacceptable,” launched André Chassaigne, president of the RDA (communist) group, who said he was “shocked,” “hurt and humiliated.” His intervention was applauded by almost the entire National Assembly, and was even taken up by Yaël Braun-Pivet.
“None of us here is a murderer,” Cyrielle Châtelain, president of the environmental group, declared a few minutes earlier. “Words have meaning and cannot, in this Chamber, be used lightly,” she recalled.
Finally, on the side of the socialists, Boris Vallaud called for “the serenity and control of each one.” “Here you have to defend with conviction and passion, sometimes with anger, what you believe, but never with words that could hurt or offend,” he said.
“STOP STOP STOP”
Nupes’ unity, already weakened in recent months, therefore seems once again undermined. Because the tone and solemnity of the presidents of the RDA, socialist and environmental groups differ from the statements made by the latter on Friday, when the rebel Thomas Portes was sanctioned.
It is true that several Nupes elected officials had denied the attitude of Thomas Portes, posing with a balloon with the image of Olivier Dussopt. But no one had spoken in the chamber to denounce his act.
Symbol of the two lines on the left: neither André Chassaigne, nor Cyrielle Chatelain, nor Boris Vallaud were applauded by the rebel deputies during their speeches this Monday.
Finally, on social networks, several members of the PS criticized the behavior of Aurélien Saintoul. “STOP STOP STOP. The Assembly cannot become a theater of provocations and verbal violence”, writes for example the vice-president of the National Assembly Valérie Rabault.
“Not my left. Excuses will not be enough”, also affirms the mayor of Rouen Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, now number 2 of the PS.
In the evening, the debates calmly resumed in the National Assembly. In the evening, the Nupes deputies, headed by François Ruffin, announced the withdrawal of a thousand amendments to advance the debates on the pension reform. A sign of unity before a next coup?
