On the day Catarina Martins announced she would be leaving BE leadership at the convention in May, António Costa turned to the social network Twitter to greet and wish “all the best in the new phase” of the blogger’s life .
“Together we have turned the page from austerity towards more growth, better jobs and more equality,” he recalled, in allusion to the device, the solution of the PS government supported in parliament by the BE, PCP and PEV.

Catarina Martins announced today that she will no longer be BE’s coordinator at the next bloquista National Convention as she is not up for re-election.
At this morning’s press conference, Catarina Martins expressed “absolute calm” that there are people “with the capacity, strength and preparation” to replace her in office, waiting for a convention with “unified solutions in the party”.
Deputy and bloc leader Mariana Mortágua should be a candidate for bloc leadership at the next national convention, in May, Lusa news agency heard from a party source.
The silent leader of the BE stated that the decade in which she was ahead of the fate of the BE was one of “victories and defeats”, explaining that “what has now changed” was “the instability of the absolute majority” and that the crisis “multiplied within the government and shaken by popular struggles is the sign of the end of a political cycle”.
“In the bloc there are not very long periods of functions like coordination. What made me decide at this point was to think that the bloc should now start preparing for the political change that is already here,” he justified.
Catarina Martins has been at the forefront of the party’s destiny since November 2012, then in partnership with João Semedo, when they were elected coordinators of the Bloco de Esquerda, then in an unprecedented “two-headed” leadership, a model that emerged two years later was abandoned, at the next National Convention, in 2014.
