“It’s their turn to explain”: Olivier Marleix asks the executive for details about long careers

The deputy from Eure-et-Loir, president of the “Les Républicains” group in the National Assembly, nevertheless acknowledged a “progress” by the government on the long-running device.

43 annuities for certain long careers that until then had to be contributed 44? In any case, this is the promise that Élisabeth Borne made this Tuesday in the National Assembly, in the middle of a debate on the pension reform: “once the early retirement age has been reached, the reform does not provide for long careers with a period of of more than 43 years”, said the Prime Minister in response to a question from the deputy LR Véronique Louwagie.

A commitment that he later clarified: “this will also be the case for people who started working at 17 years of age and whose early retirement age is set at 60”. A concession granted to the Republicans, whose deputies will play a crucial role in voting or not on the government reform.

“We have undeniably made progress on this issue. […] it is progress”, admitted the president of the LR group before the National Assembly on BFMTV.

“The reform showed age categories, especially among people who had started working at the age of 20 and were condemned to make 44 annuities,” Olivier Marleix stressed on our antenna.

What about those who started working at 16 or 18?

Aurélien Pradié, LR deputy opposed to the government text, however, asked the executive to specify its intention, in particular for French women and men who started working at 16 and 18 years of age.

Taking into account the adjustments proposed by the Prime Minister, those who started working at 16 or 18 will still have to contribute 44 years before they can benefit from a full pension, according to information from BFMTV.

“What I understood, what the prime minister told us, is that we could exercise this right to retire as soon as we have the 43 annuities. It is up to them to explain themselves”, said Olivier Marleix on our antenna.

The amendment presented by the government leaves, however, the possibility of future adjustments by decree.
