Manuel Pizarro: ‘SNS Executive Director will be invited in the coming days’

There is no closed name yet, but in the coming days the desired figure to lead the executive leadership of the National Health Service (SNS) will be invited. The information was released Friday afternoon by Health Minister Manuel Pizarro, after the three new secretaries of state (two under his direct authority) took office.

At the end of the ceremony, the minister expressed himself “very pleased” with the promulgation of the diploma that allows the entry into force of this new direction, something that according to Manuel Pizarro should happen on 1 October. The executive director – who will be “invited in the coming days” – will not be “full-fledged” until January 1, when the state budget for 2023 begins to be applied.

Recalling that during the pandemic, “the SNS gave many proofs and guarantees of health protection for the Portuguese” (more so “than some countries that often consider themselves more developed”), the minister stated that, in creating the executive leadership of the SNS, “It is expected that people’s satisfaction with healthcare will improve”. However, he added that the creation of this structure “does not relieve the government of any responsibility”.

Regarding the new secretaries of state, Manuel Pizarro congratulated the new faces and reminded that “it is the first time that a government has had a secretary of state with the health promotion portfolio”, which will be occupied by Margarida Tavares. “The goal is to listen to society and what people have to say to us”declared.
