On the date that marks the 43th anniversary of the National Health Service (SNS), Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa considered the SNS “one of the greatest achievements of our democracy, guaranteeing a true right to health”.
The president of the republic said this Thursday, in statements posted on the website of the presidency of the republic, that: “would like to congratulate its founders and pioneers, who have worked across the country to collect, multiply and promote health units, as well as, in particular, all its health professionals, whom she congratulates for the commitment and generosity with which she takes care of their fellow citizens”.
The head of state says it was for this reason that in March this year he “honoured the SNS with the Military Order of the Tower and Sword, of Courage, Loyalty and Merit”.
Marcelo emphasized the importance of the SNS “in the improvement of everyone’s health, without discrimination of any kind, its role as a unifying element of the country, its universal and tendentious free character, without showing the urgency of its evolution to ensure a path of excellence in answering the challenges of the present and future time”.
