Cabinet starts consultation with farmers in ‘decisive phase’

This Monday, the government began a series of meetings with the confederations representing farmers, at a time it described as “decisive”, close to the start of the Single Request applications.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food, Maria do Céu Antunes, and the new Secretary of State for Agriculture, Gonçalo Rodrigues, met this Monday with the Confederation of Farmers of Portugal (CAP), the National Confederation of Young Farmers and Rural Development (CNJ) , the Association of Young Farmers of Portugal (AJAP) and the National Confederation of Agriculture (CNA).

This round ends on Wednesday with the National Confederation of Agricultural Cooperatives and Agricultural Credit of Portugal (Confagri). “These meetings confirm the spirit of permanent dialogue as an indispensable tool for the success of public policies”said Maria do Céu Antunes, quoted in a statement.

The executive also noted that these meetings are “in a decisive phase” and that farmers can apply for the Single Request 2023 between March 1 and May 31.

“The PEPAC (Strategic Plan for the Common Agricultural Policy) undoubtedly has an ambitious vision, but it represents a reform that will leave no one behind”Goncalo Rodrigues said.
