Costa says Europe is “more united than ever” in supporting Kiev

The prime minister believed on Thursday that, one year after the outbreak of war in Ukraine, Europe is “more united than ever” behind Kiev and will continue to defend a peace that guarantees the country’s territorial integrity.

“A year after the Russian invasion, Europe is more united than ever in its military, political, financial and humanitarian support to the Ukrainian people”reads a message published by António Costa on the social network Twitter, in which the Prime Minister added a statement by the members of the European Council on the war in Ukraine.

This is reported by CEO Europe “so that it will continue, together with its international partners, in the defense of international law and a path towards a peace that guarantees the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine”.

The military offensive launched by Russia in Ukraine on February 24, 2022 has so far led to the flight of more than 14 million people – 6.5 million internally displaced persons and more than eight million to European countries – according to the most recent data from the UN. which classifies this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since World War II (1939-1945). At the moment, at least 17.7 million Ukrainians need humanitarian aid and 9.3 million people need food aid and housing.

The Russian invasion – justified by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russian security – was condemned by the international community at large, which responded by sending arms to Ukraine and to impose on Russia political and economic sanctions.

The UN presented 7,199 dead civilians and 11,756 injured since the start of the war, underlining that these numbers are far from real.
