TAP: PSD wants to hear Medina, Pedro Nuno Santos, Alexandra Reis and Neeleman in the investigation

Finance Minister Fernando Medina, former governors Pedro Nuno Santos and Alexandra Reis, businessman David Neeleman and TAP’s CEO are among the first names the PSD wants to hear in TAP’s investigative committee.

According to information provided to the Lusa agency by an official PSD source, the list of people to be heard in the context of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into the political oversight of TAP’s management will have other names, including trade unions, associations , companies working with the airline or current and former TAP legal, finance and human resources managers.

Fernando Medina and Pedro Nuno Santos – who stepped down in late 2022 because of the “public perception and collective feeling surrounding” the TAP case and the damages paid to Alexandra Reis – are among the names the PSD wants to hear, who join, on the area of government, precisely the former Secretary of State for Finance Alexandra Reis and the former Secretary of State for Infrastructure Hugo Mendes.

Entrepreneurs David Neeleman and Humberto Pedrosa and current TAP CEO Christine Ourmières-Widener are also on this list, which is joined by the airline’s current and former president Manuel Beja and Miguel Frasquilho, respectively.

The PSD also wants to hear from former TAP CEO Antonoaldo Neves, current finance administrator Gonçalo Pires and António de Macedo Vitorino, who this week stepped down as president of the airline’s General Assembly.

Former Secretary of State Miguel Cruz and the current Secretary of State for Finance complete this first group of social-democratic names.

On February 3, BE’s proposal to set up a committee of inquiry to oversee the political management of TAP, for a period of 90 days, was approved in parliament, with the PS and PCP abstaining and the vote in favor of the other parties.

The text, approved without votes against, establishes a parliamentary commission of inquiry “under the political supervision of the TAP management” that will focus, between 2020 and 2022, on investigating the entry and exit of former government Alexandra Reis and the responsibilities of guardianship in the decisions made.

The parliamentary inquiry into TAP is chaired by socialist Jorge Seguro Sanches, who will have PSD deputy Paulo Rios de Oliveira as 1st Vice President and Chega Filipe Melo as 2nd Vice President.
