PCP deputies said on Friday that Lula da Silva’s presence in parliament “makes perfect sense”.
In a letter to the editors, the communists refer that “an official visit of the President of the Republic of Brazil is foreseen” to Portugal (it will take place between April 22 and 25 on the occasion of the Luso-Brazilian summit), then it is “completely logical” that Lula da Silva is in the Assembly of the Republic “within the established criteria”.
For the fraction of the PCP, Lula’s presence could take place “either at a specific special solemn session or at the solemn commemoration meeting on April 25”..
The announcement of Lula da Silva’s presence at the session of April 25, remember, was made by Foreign Minister João Gomes Cravinho during a visit to Brazil. However, both the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Augusto Santos Silva, and the parties criticized the attitude of the ruler, accusing them of not ensuring the separation of powers.
