TAP: PCP says privatization is an economic crime that will pay dearly

PCP Secretary General Paulo Raimundo defended this Tuesday that TAP should remain in the public sphere, saying that pushing for privatization is “an economic crime” that the country will pay dearly for.

“We believe that a public company, as TAP is today, should have public management criteria and not private management criteria, which allows for these shenanigans. pay “he claimed.

Paulo Raimundo spoke in Minas da Panasqueira, in the municipality of Covilhã, Castelo Branco district, where he was present on Tuesday at the national action of the PCP “More Power for Workers”, together with the miners of Panasqueira.

Questioned by journalists about the announced privatization of TAP, Paulo Raimundo claimed that it will be a mistake.

“It is the wrong choice for the government, it is the wrong choice for the country and it is the wrong choice for our sovereignty and for the Portuguese workers”he said.

Referring to the fact that the path of privatization has been going on for 20 years, the leader of the communists also emphasized that it was precisely this path that enabled the scandals that the country faced in aviation. For the PCP, compensation for former Secretary of State Alexandra Reis is not at stake, he said.

“See the companies that are in favor and are worth eight, ten, 15 times more financial damage to our pockets,” stressed that TAP’s problems are not limited to the last two or two and a half years.

In this sense, he insisted that the Commission of Inquiry into TAP should be extended to the period when Pedro Passos Coelho was Prime Minister.
