Support the victims of the porn industry, strengthen the criminal arsenal, tax this activity, protect young people: the Senate called this Wednesday to make the fight against pornographic violence “a public policy priority”, in “a decision of collective conscience”.
A draft resolution to this effect was unanimously approved, jointly signed by more than 250 senators from all political groups but not binding.
A report on the “hell of decoration”
It follows a Senate report released last September on “decorating hell,” denouncing abuses by the porn industry and calling on the government to act.
Co-authored with Annick Billon (UDI), Alexandra Borchio Fontimp (LR) and Laurence Cohen (PCF), the socialist Laurence Rossignol denounced in the chamber “a denial and complacency from which this industry has benefited for far too long”.
He recalled that “France is one of the countries that consumes the most in the world” of this content, which induces “systemic violence” against women.
“It is urgent to act”, added Alexandra Borchio Fontimp, stressing in particular that the solutions to verify the age of users were implemented slowly, to block access to minors; a solution is being tested this month.
“Strong measures against broadcasters”
“There is a very favorable breeding ground for violent behavior towards women”, admitted the Minister Delegate for Equality between Women and Men Isabelle Rome, who wants to spread a “powerful educational message”.
“Currently, inter-ministerial discussions are underway to take forceful measures against the stations, which will no longer be able to hide behind a supposed legal vacuum,” he also stressed.
