The speaker of the parliament denied this Friday, together with the president of the republic, the participation of the Brazilian head of state Lula da Silva in the formal session of April 25.
Augusto Santos Silva answered a question from Chega’s leader and deputy, André Ventura, about whether he had organized the formal session on April 25 with the participation of Lula da Silva “in the absence of parliament”.
“I would like to know if the President is available to give this explanation, if he confirms that he was negotiating with the President of the Republic to bring the Brazilian President to Portugal so that he could participate in the session of April 25 and if he did that without parliament? (…) If you could provide that explanation, we would be very grateful,” Ventura asked before the plenary session’s agenda.
“The answer is simple: no,” replied Augusto Santos Silva.
On Wednesday, Santos Silva announced that the Assembly of the Republic will host a formal welcoming session for Brazil’s President, Lula da Silva, after an announcement by the foreign minister that Brazil’s head of state would intervene in the April 25 formal session.
Santos Silva also indicated that details, such as the date of the welcome session, at which Lula da Silva will speak, are yet to be determined.
André Ventura took advantage of an article published in today’s edition of the newspaper Nascer do Sol, according to which Augusto Santos Silva, together with the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, organized the participation of the Head of State of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, during the celebration of April 25.
According to the newspaper, Santos Silva would have forgotten to bring the matter to the leadership conference.
