This Friday, the PSD chairman accused the government of imposing “the ideological model of socialism and communism” to level and the PS of resorting to “listening” to discuss TAP’s past in parliament.
During a dinner organized by the Lisbon district, in Terrugem (municipality of Sintra), for about 700 people, Luís Montenegro complained that more and more people in Portugal are earning the national minimum wage and that the middle class is “ever smaller and suffocated”.
“It is a truly socialist and communist society, they manage to impose the model that is the ideological model of socialism and communism, but this is not the model that serves the interests of the people, of those who work and committed to having an income and getting ahead in life”he charged, opposing the need to “reward merit” and “give tools” so that everyone can rise in life.
Montenegro warned that the government’s decisions or lack thereof “have consequences” in terms of health, the railway – given “a scandal” what happened to the overcrowded train on the Sintra line – or TAP.
Regarding the airline, Montenegro made it a point to respond to criticism from PS parliamentary leader Eurico Brilhante Dias, who on Thursday accused the former PSD/CDS government (2011-2015) of complicity in an alleged asset purchase of TAP from airlines. arguing that it “wasn’t privatized, it was offered” to David Neelman.
“Dr. Eurico has days when he is not brilliant, as was the case yesterday. There is a commission of inquiry whose work has practically not begun and he has already been convicted”criticized Montenegro.
The PSD leader recalled that the BE’s proposed parliamentary committee of inquiry aims to assess TAP’s actions from 2020 to date, and accused the PS of finding “a ruse” to summon former rulers to the Economic Commission.
“Be clear, say what you see, be direct, be honest. They want to do what the committee of inquiry is responsible for in the Committee on Economics, not throw sand in their eyes”appealed and said the PSD is available to clarify what happened with TAP’s privatization in 2015, as well as in all subsequent years.
“And then we will see who is responsible for taking 3.2 million euros from people to pay for an ideological whim that had no reason to exist”he charged in the most applauded part of his speech.
In its speech, Montenegro also commented on former Health Minister Marta Temido’s recent interview to SIC, in which she praised the role of the private and social sector during the covid-19 pandemic.
“Whoever may have been the Minister of Health with a more statist and left-wing ideological nature says that after all she has surrendered to the kindness of the social and private sector. It was by her hand, with the Prime Minister’s permission, that Public Private Collaboration ended”criticized.
At the dinner, organized by the district of Lisbon, which was not attended by the current mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, two PSD mayors of this district who are in their last term of office – Carlos Carreiras (Cascais) and Helder Sousa Silva (Mafra).
Montenegro assured that it will follow the advice of the Cascais mayor and continue on the “firm and unhurried” path: “stay calm [tenham calma, em inglês]we are here with the patience of the democrats, we know that parliamentary elections were held a year ago and the government will only fail to fulfill its mandate if it does not have the capacity”he said.
In addition to this advice, Carreiras left another one to the PSD leader: “We have to make an alliance, an alliance with a great social movement, that’s enough. Enough of a country without direction and without hope. We must strive for an absolute majority, that is our ambition”he appealed, saying the PSD doesn’t have to be “arranged for marriages,” in an apparent reference to Chega.
