Montenegro: PSD in no “hurry” to reach government, but wants to “turn the page”

PSD president Luís Montenegro said on Saturday that it is the country in a hurry to change government and not his party as it is necessary to “turn the page” on Portugal’s impoverishment.

“We are in no hurry to go to government, although the country is in a hurry to change government, we respect the rules of democracy, but I want you to know that we are ready to rule Portugal and we are going to prepare ourselves even more every day, so that we can react precisely to the problems that become bigger, more serious, that the PS will leave us,” he said.

Luís Montenegro, speaking in the village of Vale de Cavalos, in the rural parish of Alegrete, in the municipality of Portalegre, during a convivial lunch with PSD militants and supporters who were part of the “Build Alternative” days, also defended that the party will “turn the page” of impoverishment in Portugal, but for that to happen, “it is necessary to change the government”

“We PSD are going to turn the page on impoverishment in Portugal, Portugal needs to turn the page on impoverishment, but to turn the page on impoverishment it is necessary to change the government and we are here to give the Portuguese the government that will Portuguese deserve.”, he said.

During his speech, the PSD leader criticized António Costa’s policies in various areas such as health, education, housing or agriculture, recalling that PS governments have ended in a negative way for the country in recent years.

“There are three series of seven [governações do PS]the first was with António Guterres and the country ended up in a swamp, the second was with José Sócrates and the country went bankrupt, the third is with António Costa and the country is at the tail end of Europe, it is on a path of impoverishment “, he said .

“They can say what they want, but they will never be able to say that a PSD government called the International Monetary Fund, they will never be able to say that a PSD government left Portugal in a quagmire, they will never be able to say that a PSD government bankrupted Portugal and they will never be able to say that a PSD government has left Portugal in the tail end of Europe,” he added.

Luís Montenegro also said that “it is necessary” for António Costa to “wake up in the world” and find that his policies contribute to a “more unbalanced” country.

“The policy of this PS, or often the lack thereof [políticas]contribute to a country that is more unbalanced, more unfair and therefore naturally poorer,” he said.

The PSD leader also recalled that Portuguese society pays taxes “as it has never paid before” and that in return it receives “minimal services, minimal investment, almost zero investment”.

In this sense, Luís Montenegro believes that this is happening as a result of political decisions that he considers wrong, giving the example of TAP.

“Political decisions have consequences, for example, when the PS renationalized the Portuguese airline TAP at the time, it meant injecting 3,200 million euros into the company a few years later and that money how much investment would have been made with that money in low-density areas,” he wondered.

During his speech of about 30 minutes, the PSD president defended policies that succeed in meeting the development of the interior of the country, so that greater territorial cohesion can be achieved.
