PSD warns of complaints that IRS shipments are not reaching institutions

The PSD questioned the government this Friday over complaints that the 0.5% IRS allocation that taxpayers can send to beneficiary institutions “is not reaching” some of them.

In a request addressed to the Secretary of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security, the PSD reminds that the allocation of 0.5% of the IRS by taxpayers “has been in effect for nearly 20 years, allowing forwarding to an institution – charity, mercy, foundations, folk houses, theaters, social and parish centers, churches, firefighters and other charitable associations -, at the taxpayer’s choice, 0.5% of the tax that would end up in the state coffers”.

“However, situations have come to the knowledge of the PSD fraction that these consignment values have not arrived at the beneficiary institutions registered with the Tax Authorities. These consignment values have an important weight in the accounts of these institutions”says the PSD, in a request signed in the head by the vice president of the bank Clara Marques Mendes.

Following these charges, the PSD is questioning minister Ana Mendes Godinho or the government “is aware of situations where the beneficiary institutions registered with the tax authorities do not receive the amount corresponding to the IRS shipment”.

“How does the government intend to solve this issue in order for the beneficiary institutions registered with the Tax Office to reach the amount allocated to it by the taxpayers?”ask the Social Democratic deputies.

The PSD points out that without the ability to allocate this amount, “it would be up to the state to determine where to place the tax,” as the IRS allocation “is a right each taxpayer has to choose which mission he or she most identifies with and in relation to which it recognizes a relevant impact on society”, among the 4,561 beneficiary entities, in 2022.
