Sandrine Rousseau “cannot prevent RN from voting” a motion brought by the Nupes

The Green deputy reaffirmed that she will not sign a motion brought by the RN in case of appeal to 49.3 by the government. But she does not rule out ways for the extreme right to pass a motion put forward by Nupes or another group, paving the way for the overthrow of the government.

“I am not going to sign a motion with the National Association, I have said it many times”, insists Sandrine Rousseau. Given the difficulties of the presidential field in the National Assembly to gather a majority of deputies to vote for the pension reform, the scenario of a new 49.3 seems increasingly likely.

The activation of this article would again compromise the “responsibility of the government” by opening the way to one or more motions of censure. Among the ten motions submitted since the start of the new legislature, none has received the 289 votes needed to overthrow the government.

But the president of the RN, Jordan Bardella, continues to call for a union of deputies who oppose the reform project to overthrow the government: “it is in the interest of all French people that the opposition agree to present a motion of censure.” He also mentioned on this occasion “today’s discussions in the National Assembly” on a common text.

“There will not be my signature” in motion of RN

In this context, Sandrine Rousseau recalled that she did not intend to co-sign or vote on a motion text brought by Marine Le Pen’s party. “Even a multi-party motion will be without the RN in any case,” hammered the deputy for Paris on BFMTV this Sunday, in line with her positions in previous motions.

“There will not be my signature and I do not think there will be any signature from my political group,” he reaffirmed.

A strategy apparently shared by the Socialist Party, according to Senator Patrick Kanner: “We will present a motion, but we will never mix our votes with those of RN,” the elected official said.

Sandrine Rousseau explains, however, that she cannot “prevent the National Association from voting” on a motion promoted by the Ecologist Group and/or NUPES. Or by the Republicans.

Because according to information obtained by BFMTV, LR MPs are currently working on a cross-party motion with elected representatives from the left and from the LIOT (Freedoms, Independent, Overseas Territories) group. As a reminder, a motion must be signed by at least 58 deputies, at least one tenth of the Assembly, to be put to a vote.

The government plays serenity

Faced with the risk of a vote of no confidence being approved, the government refuses to affirm that it is ready to use 49.3: “It is not a tool that we are ready to draw either”, estimated the door – government spokesman Olivier Véran at LCI this on Monday, while explaining that the government “will not give up” on its pension reform. The day before, the Minister of Labor, Olivier Dussopt, estimated that the government “does not want” 49.3, however, he judged it “stupid” to reject it completely.

Still, according to the BFMTV counter of MPs who said they would vote for the reform, the count is still not there. Only 15 LR deputies have publicly expressed their support for the text, while the government needs some forty additional votes for it to be adopted.

Emmanuel Macron has repeatedly recalled his intentions: “If there is a motion of no confidence that is voted on, I dissolve immediately“He replied in September.
