They are going to change the vote, and they know it. On the eve of the Mixed Commission on the pension reform this Wednesday, March 15, the group Les Républicains of the National Assembly remains deeply divided, according to the latest score made by BFMTV.
According to our information, 22 deputies could vote against or abstain on Thursday if the CMP agrees on a text and it is submitted to the parliamentarians for a vote.
Some of them have been in this position since the start of the review of the pension reform, such as Ian Boucard, who on BFMTV denounced the “injustice” of the bill on Tuesday.
We also find “the young guard” of LR deputies headed by Aurélien Pradié, but also relatives of Laurent Wauquiez. According to information from RMC, some LR deputies, such as Pierre-Henri Dumont, could even vote for a cross-party vote of no confidence to overthrow the government.
18 in favor, 21 undecided
According to the counter compiled by the BFMTV political service, only 18 LR deputies say they are sure they will vote for the reform. We find in this contingent the head of the party, Éric Ciotti, but also emblematic figures of the right at the Palais Bourbon such as Olivier Marleix, president of the Les Républicains group, and Annie Genevad, former vice president of the National Assembly.
Eleven MPs told BFMTV that they prefer to wait for the end of the discussions in the Joint Joint Committee before deciding, as the content of the bill may still evolve.
Finally, ten deputies from Les Républicains did not respond to BFMTV’s requests and did not express themselves clearly on the bill in recent days. His vote this Thursday could also weigh heavily in the balance.
A majority far from assured
Because the government and the presidential field need a maximum number of votes to ensure a favorable vote. Above all because, for the moment, several representatives from Renaissance, Horizons or MoDem are not sure they will vote for the text. They could abstain or even vote against.
From a majority, by adding the potential votes of the 22 LR deputies and those of all the members of the Nupes, LIOT and RN groups, plus those of four of the five non-registered deputies, the total number of parliamentarians against the reform pension s rises, at most, to 283.
If the majority is full (all Renaissance, Horizons, Modem MEPs vote in favour) and is supported by 18 LR MEPs and one non-registered MEP (Emmanuelle Ménard), the total number of parliamentarians for the pension reform will increase to 269 Insufficient, for now.
But with the support of the undecided LR (21), the number of votes “in favor” would rise to 290. The participation in the ballot of each deputy will therefore be decisive: 48 hours before the vote in the National Assembly, the suspense for so much remains intact.
