In a context where the government could use 49.3 on the pension reform and compromise its responsibility, François Hollande believes that there is no chance that he will be overthrown by the deputies. In particular, he predicted that such a motion, no matter where it came from, would not get enough votes from Les Républicains deputies.
“Everyone knows that the motion of censure will not pass,” the former president of the Republic judged on Franceinfo on Tuesday.
If he considers the presentation of a motion “legitimate” because it allows “clearly raising responsibility” and that it is a “tradition”, François Hollande is categorical: “Let’s not think that it can happen.”
“LR will not vote for her”
To be voted on, a motion of no confidence must receive at least 289 votes in the National Assembly. However, adding up all the votes of the left-wing opposition Nupes of the Rassemblement natonal and the Liot group (Freedoms, Independents, Overseas and Territories), we find just over 250 votes.
The support of some forty LR deputies is therefore essential to consider the overthrow of the Government. But “LR will not vote for him,” says the former head of state.
François Hollande believes, however, that “it is up to the left to present a motion of no confidence” so as not to have to vote on a possible text brought by the RN, because support for a motion from Marine Le Pen’s party “would be difficult to understand, even unacceptable.
