The PSD parliamentary group questioned Defense Minister Helena Carreiras about the status of the defense industry restructuring plan, which was reportedly delivered to the ministry in February 2021.
The Social Democratic deputies who are members of the Parliamentary Defense Committee are asking Helena Carreiras, in a regulatory question delivered to Parliament this Friday, whether the document prepared by the current Secretary of State for Defence, Marco Ferreira – then chairman of the board of directors of the IdD — Portugal Defense, SA, the holding company for state defense companies — is “validated by guardianship” or not and whether the minister is “in a position to provide it” to parliament.
The PSD also wants to know “what steps have been taken since receiving the plan”, stressing that Marco Ferreira informed parliament in June 2020 that “he would prepare and present a defense industry restructuring plan” and that in November 2021, revealed that it had been “in custody of custody since February 2021,” according to the text of the question.
“Coincidentally, Parliament will proceed in September 2022 without being aware of the plan, nor of any development related to this process,” emphasize the “orange” members of the committee.
The PSD also emphasizes in the text sent to Helena Carreiras the need for the country “to relaunch the national defense industry, which competes with large companies.” [internacionais] active in this sector”.
