Chega this Thursday failed to elect Deputy Jorge Galveias as Vice President of the Assembly of the Republic, the fourth name proposed by the party.
Chega’s deputy received 58 votes in favour, 112 whites and 28 none, out of a total of 198 voters, while he needed 116 votes to be elected.
The vote took place during the plenary session and the results were announced before the end by the Secretary of the Council of the Assembly of the Republic Maria da Luz Rosinha.
In the previous attempt to elect a Chega parliamentary ‘vice’, in June, Rui Paulo Sousa, deputy elected by Lisbon and vice president of the Chega bank, obtained 64 favorable votes (30 more than the party’s previous name), 12 nil and 137 white.
At the end of March, Chega began submitting votes for Vice President of the Assembly of the Republic Diogo Pacheco de Amorim, who fell short of the election with 35 votes in favor, 183 whites, and six nil.
On the second ballot, Gabriel Mithá Ribeiro received 37 votes in favour, 177 blanks and 11 zeros, short of the 116 deputies required to secure an absolute majority and be elected vice president.
