Pension reform: 68% of the French want a motion of no confidence to be approved this Monday

BFMTV SURVEY – Nearly seven in ten French people want parliamentarians to vote no confidence against Elisabeth Borne’s government, including a narrow majority (51%) of Emmanuel Macron’s voters in the second round of the presidential election, according to a new Elabe poll.

After the use by Elisabeth Borne of 49.3 to approve the pension reform, a large majority of the French population (68%) wants the Government to fall by voting on a motion of censure this Monday in the National Assembly says a new Elabe poll for BFMTV.

In detail, 73% of the workers, 79% of the employees and 71% of CSP+ want the deputies to vote for the censure of the government. All socio-professional categories and all age categories (including retirees, at 55%) want the motion of censure to be approved.

53% of LR supporters in favor

This Monday in the National Assembly, the deputies will debate two motions of censure. First, the group Liberties, Independents, Overseas and Territories (Liot) co-signed by deputies from four other groups (rebels, socialists, ecologists and communists). Then the National Rally.

Control weapon for parliamentarians, this provision can, if adopted, lead to the resignation of the government, and in this case to the rejection of the bill.

According to the latest scores made on Sunday night, at least 261 MPs say they are ready to vote for the Liot group’s motion. An insufficient number, because at least 287 votes are required to overthrow the government. The number of LR deputies in favor of censorship will therefore be decisive.

According to Elabe’s poll for BFMTV published on Monday, 53% of respondents who say they are close to Republicans want MPs to vote for no-confidence.

On the side of the presidential camp, 83% of Renaissance supporters do not want the motion to be adopted. But, on the contrary, 51% of the voters of Emmanuel Macron in the second round of the presidential elections are in favor.

The resignation of the Borne desired in all cases

In the probable case that the motion of no confidence is not approved, 68% of the French want the resignation of Elisabeth Borne, indicates this poll by Elabe for BFMTV.

Again, all socio-professional categories want him to leave Matignon. In detail, 74% of the active, including 82% of workers and 68% of CSP+, believe that she should step down as Prime Minister.

Nearly seven in ten French people (68%) still oppose their pension reform, and 65% of those surveyed say they express support or sympathy for social mobilization. They are so many (67%) that they want the continuation of the movement.

Survey conducted online from March 18 to 19, 2023, with a sample of 1,001 people representative of the residents of mainland France over 18 years of age. The representativeness of the sample was ensured according to the quota method applied to the following variables: sex, age and profession of the interviewee, prior stratification by region and agglomeration category.
