The President of the Assembly of the Republic, Augusto Santos Silva, defended on Wednesday that the positions between the institutions and between the PS and PSD must be as united as possible in order to carry out a constitutional revision in this term of office.
Asked by journalists on the sidelines of a meeting with the president of the government of Madeira, in Funchal, Santos Silva said that “it is public that at least one party [Chega] will initiate this process by presenting a project”.
“We will see what comes next. But the more united the positions are, not only between institutions but also between parties without which there is no constitutional review, i.e. the PS and the PSD, the better.”emphasizes.
Regarding the meeting with Miguel Albuquerque (PSD), the president of Madeira’s executive, the president of parliament thanked “the opportunity to meet”, adding that he was given “all the information” he needs about the “Major Themes and Priorities of the Agenda of the Regional Government and the Two Autonomous Regions with regard to the Legislative Powers of the Assembly of the Republic”.
“I have been given very complete information on the claims of constitutional reform, regional financial law review and other issues and issues for which the autonomous regions must rely on national solidarity,” he said.
Miguel Albuquerque, for his part, considered the “candid and fruitful conversation about what the state and the regions need to agree on with a view to improving what is fundamental, namely the public service to citizens these islands live”.
“In fact, there is currently a good climate of understanding between regional and national institutions, between the regional government and the national government,” he added.
Augusto Santos Silva arrived in Madeira on Tuesday for an official visit that ends this Wednesday.
