The PSD president this Saturday criticized the government for being “greedy on taxes but very cheap on social support” and urged the Portuguese community to move to Luxembourg to encourage investments to Portugal to pull.
“As you know, we live in a time when Portugal is being impoverished by socialist policies. We have a government that is greedy for taxes but very stingy with social support. We need to change that,” Luís Montenegro said during a speech at the Party Congress Christian Social People (CSV) in Ettelbruck, Luxembourg.
The Portuguese are the largest foreign community in Luxembourg. In 2021, there were more than 93,000 Portuguese citizens in the country, representing about 30% of the total population.
Addressing the Portuguese community present at the event, Luís Montenegro asked for more investment to Portugal: “It really needs the help of all of you, those who live here in Luxembourg, who can invest in Portugal or attract investors”.
Luxembourg has two elections this year, the local one on June 11 and the legislative one on October 8. In the first elections, Portuguese are on the CSV lists and the social democratic leader left a word for the party belonging to the same European political family, the European People’s Party (PPE).
“The participation of the Portuguese in local political bodies here in Luxembourg is not only a way to better integrate those who live here, but also to serve the interests of Portugal.”
Luís Montenegro is visiting Portuguese communities across Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Germany and Switzerland this week, as part of the “Sentir Portugal” initiative.
After participating in today’s congress, the PSD chairman will travel to Paris where he will meet with local party structures, the national community in that city and businessmen.
