Prime Minister António Costa announced on Saturday that Portugal has taken the initiative to set up a fund, starting at one million euros, for cooperation between the Hispanic community and the CPLP.
Speaking at the 28th Ibero-American Summit in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, António Costa praised “the accession as an observer of the Community of Lusophone Countries [CPLP] to the Hispanic American community”.
The Prime Minister believed that this “is a very important step” and referred to the fact that “the Hispanic American community was already an observer in the CPLP space”.
“And together we can do more. And that is why Portugal took the initiative to create a fund for cooperation between the Ibero-American Summit and the CPLP, which we have now started with a million euros, to strengthen the cooperation between these two organizations,” he added.
António Costa spoke at the 28th Ibero-American Summit right after the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
At this summit, with the motto “Together for a fair and sustainable Ibero-America”, 13 of the 22 countries of the Ibero-American community are represented at the highest level.
Present in Santo Domingo are the heads of state of Ecuador, who will host the next summit, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Honduras, Paraguay and Uruguay, as well as host country, Dominican Republic, as well as the heads of the Portuguese and Spanish governments.
