Costa says relations with PR are “stronger today than in the past”.

The Prime Minister, António Costa, said on Sunday that relations with the President of the Republic are “stronger every day” and stressed that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa is “one of the best companies”.

“Relationships between me and the President of the Republic have always been friendly and friendships have this thing, they get stronger every day,” António Costa replied after being questioned about the relationship with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, after criticism that the head of state has done in recent weeks in support of packages presented by the government or on the very dynamics of the socialist executive.

And he added, “It’s one of the best companies anyone can have, even while traveling.”

On March 22, the president of the republic pointed out that the forced renting of vacant houses announced by the government would be “aided in reconsideration” and said he hoped that PS and PSD would come to an agreement to solve the housing problems.

The president called the housing package presented by the executive branch the “poster law”.

“About forced leasing I’ve been saying the same thing for a week, there’s still a lot of debate to be had in parliament, what has been announced would benefit from reconsideration because the chambers have already said they won’t help, they don’t have the resources to be able to help find vacant properties and the system is very bureaucratic and cumbersome afterwards”.

At the beginning of March, in an interview with RTP, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa considered that Costa had a “warmed majority” and tired and spoke of a “lost year” with problems in the government structure, the result of successive controversies.
