IL says the government sent erased documents to the TAP Commission of Inquiry

IL said this Wednesday that the government had failed to send documents about TAP’s restructuring process to the Commission of Inquiry, requesting that they be returned in “complete physical and digital format and without erasure”.

In a request to the chairman of the TAP Commission of Inquiry, to which Lusa had access, the Liberal Initiative (IL) party deputies refer that, after consulting the documentation sent by the Ministries of Infrastructure and Finance regarding “the process of the company’s restructuring agreed between the Portuguese government and the European Commission, subject to confidentiality”, found that “what was requested had not been sent”.

According to the Liberals, “in the digital version of TAP’s restructuring plan, there are several erased pages” and “in the paper version, there are not even these pages”, which is about 50.

Since “this documentation is absolutely essential” for the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI), the IL asked the president, the socialist Jorge Seguro Sanches, “to intervene with the above-mentioned ministries so that the documents are sent to the CPI, [em formato] physically and digitally complete and without erasure, subject of course to the same degree of secrecy”.

The TAP Commission of Inquiry begins its hearing phase today, with the Inspectorate General of Finance (IGF) being the first entity to be heard after concluding that mistakes were made in the departure of former administrator Alexandra Reis, prompting the government to brought to dismiss the presidents of the company.

The commission, proposed by BE, will focus between 2020 and 2022 on examining Alexandra Reis’ entry and exit from the airline – who later took office as Secretary of State for Finance – and the responsibilities of guardianship in the decisions made.
