The scene has not yet been played. But everything leads to believe that it is already written. The first role belongs to the executive. For him, it’s about demonstrating dialogue, and paying attention to his pension reform. And, more generally, to show that he seeks to “appease the country”, to use the words of Elisabeth Borne this week.
In this sense, the Prime Minister invited several opposition political groups to come to Matignon at the beginning of the week. Emmanuel Macron gave him a new road map: “expand the majority” and “build a government program”. His fate depends on the success of this mission.
“A little easy to discuss after and not before”
But the different oppositions are not intended to make your task easier. Manuel Bompard and Fabien Roussel, respectively responsible for La France insoumise (LFI) and the French Communist Party (PCF), have already announced that they will not attend this meeting with Elisabeth Borne.
Here too, everything seemed to be a foregone conclusion for these formations that have no interest in guaranteeing the success of the dialogue for the government. “Especially because it’s a bit easy to argue afterwards and not before,” stresses our political columnist Matthieu Croissandeau.
“Three months ago this reform was presented. The opposition was frankly listened to, nor was it respected during the parliamentary debates”.
“Everything is decided at the Elysee”
The rebels and the communists are not against an exchange with the Executive, but they point to the President of the Republic. “Everything is decided at the Élysée,” Fabien Roussel stressed.
For this reason, “the parliamentarians of the New Ecological and Social Popular Union (Nupes) want to” demand the withdrawal of the text of the law before the Elysée Palace on Tuesday morning, “said Manuel Bompard. For the moment, the Socialists and environmentalists did not decide whether or not to come to Matignon.
For the RN the opportunity to express herself “in front of all the cameras”
On the side of the National Rally (RN), Marine Le Pen gave the green light to meet this Tuesday with the head of government. Although she regretted that the exchange is organized before April 14, the date on which the Constitutional Council must rule on the conformity of the bill.
The extreme right puts on a suit that we know well from the beginning of the new legislature. That of a formation that intends to present itself as a government force doing everything possible to respect republican customs. However, this interview will be “above all the opportunity to speak on the porch in front of all the cameras”, analyzes Matthieu Croissandeau.
Clearly everyone plays their part in this sequence, with no commitment really on the agenda. A fool’s game.
