Carlos Pereira, a PS deputy who took part in the “secret” meeting in January between the PS faction, members of the government and former TAP CEO Christine Ourmières-Widener, leaves the commission of inquiry into the public management of the company that takes place in parliament.
The news is brought forward by SIC Notícias.
The Socialist deputy was among those who attended a meeting with the now former executive chairman of TAP, members of the PS group and the offices of the Ministries of Infrastructure and Parliamentary Affairs, which took place on the eve of an audition of Ourmières – Widener, at the Economics Committee, in January this year.
“These are preparatory meetings, others for sharing information that serve to ensure that the investigation is thorough, serious and accountable,” Carlos Pereira said last week, declining any objectionable ethical conduct.
For the socialist, what happened at this meeting – made public by IL at the hearing – is “what usually happens” as “information is shared” between government advisers, the parliamentary group and the entities “to understand what the themes” are under be analysis.
“Sharing of information is perfectly normal, it would be abnormal not to share information. Just like government information is shared with other parties upon request. There is nothing abnormal about this process,” he underlined.
The day after these statements by the PS deputy, the Minister of Infrastructure, João Galamba, announced in a statement that the meeting had taken place and that TAP has expressed interest in participating in the meeting.
The Galamba ministry has publicly confirmed that two cabinet members attended the meeting, but not the minister himself. But, according to the note, João Galamba was told “that on the afternoon of January 16, TAP had expressed interest in participating in the meeting with the PS faction”.
