Should Sandrine Rousseau speak publicly about the internal procedure against Julien Bayou on suspicion of psychological violence against his former partner? Asked by LCI this Friday, the green deputy from Paris asked another question: “If he hadn’t said things, what would have happened?”
“They would have criticized me for covering”
Response as a result of the interested party: “They would have accused me of covering up and lying [alors que l’affaire] He’s in my own party.”
While the environmentalists’ “investigation and sanction unit” was seized last July, Sandrine Rousseau indicated that “the victim had not yet been heard.”
“It raises a fundamental problem,” said the former finalist in the environmental primaries.
Before questioning: “When it comes to a national secretary of a political party (Julien Bayou), is an internal cell really the best way to manage?” And Rousseau to remember that for the people who are part of this structure, the theme “will be burning, sensitive.”
“Julien Bayou himself pulled this case”
The ecofeminist defended herself for having put this case “in the public square.” “It was Julien Bayou himself who brought this case up,” she said. The leader of the Greens had confirmed to the Figaro last July the decision of the internal commission against him, causing a “painful and difficult break” with his former partner.
He then indicated that he would be “interrogated as soon as possible about what in no way constitutes sexist or sexual violence or inappropriate conduct towards anyone.”
“Delegitimize the words of those who carry out this fight”
To justify herself, Sandrine Rousseau also mentioned a NousToutes tweet, after which she was questioned on France 5. “Hello EELV, the VSS cell (sexist and sexual violence, editor’s note) was seized following accusations of violence committed by Julien Bayou.” recalled the feminist collective.
While asking two questions: “How to ensure that the activists are safe? It does not seem that any action has been taken, why?”
Sandrine Rousseau also clarified that he had spoken “in agreement with the victim.” The day before, Stéphane Séjourné said that he was “shocked” on France 5 by the speech of the environmentalist deputy. “It is not a normal process. We have a rule of law, judges, prosecutors, lawyers”, the secretary general of Renacimiento, the new presidential party, was outraged. He thus accused the elected ecologist of “doing justice [elle]-same”.
“To say that there is a form of instrumentalization […] of hidden intention, is not recognizing that it is a fight in its own right […] and it is to delegitimize the word of those who are leading this fight”, answered Sandrine Rousseau.
He called for “focusing on the men who carry out this violence”, arguing that “it is absolutely abnormal that the methods of feminists are always questioned”.
