Iniciativa Liberal wants to know if Carlos Pereira was in a “trial situation” with CGD

The Liberal Initiative (IL) will ask the parliamentary ethics committee to assess whether deputy Carlos Pereira (PS) was in a “trial situation” when he was rapporteur for the committee of inquiry into the recapitalization of Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD).

Minutes after Carlos Pereira explained why he left the investigative committee to TAP, IL leader Rui Rocha stated that it is necessary to ask whether the deputy is “in process” – to “raise a question of guilt responsible was” as a guarantor of a company going bankrupt, and whether he “had any conditions and could have been a rapporteur and even a member of the Commission of Inquiry”.

The IL deputy said his bank will ask for a parliamentary hearing with the Caixa government to “clarify its intervention in this whole process, whether or not there was negligence and whether or not there was any intent to retaliate” in relation to the Socialist deputy.

In a press conference this Friday in parliament, Carlos Pereira said he will leave the TAP Commission of Inquiry to give it the “needed rest”, ending what he described as a “climate of suspicion”.

This Friday, Correio da Manhã reported in a headline an alleged favor from the deputy, a debt cancellation with a discount of 66 thousand euros in the payment of a credit to a company in which he acted as guarantor.

The PS deputy added that he has not left the committee because “a debt has been forgiven” by Caixa Geral de Depósitos, adding that it is “not true that forgiveness has been granted”, favors or incompatibilities.
