PCP accuses PS, PSD and CDS of having “stained hands” at TAP

PCP Secretary General Paulo Raimundo last Sunday accused PS, PSD and CDS of having “stained hands” regarding the management of TAP, arguing that there is “a lot to explain” in the privatization process of the Portuguese airline.

“The PS, PSD and CDS have stained their hands. They have all stained their hands in this,” said the PCP’s general secretary, on the sidelines of an April Revolution commemorative luncheon, in Vila do Conde, Porto district.

Speaking to journalists, Paulo Raimundo referred to the agreement between the government and TAP’s private shareholder in 2017.

“The former administrator bought TAP with money from TAP, with the consent of PSD and CDS. And now they are coming [PSD] ask the PS for justifications, which are fair, for having a deal with the administrator who spent no money on TAP and still left with 55 million [de euros] in your pocket,” he said.

In 2017, according to news from Correio da Manhã, an amendment was made to TAP’s initial direct sales agreement, dated 2015, which stipulated that the $226 million Atlantic Gateway (a consortium consisting of shareholders David Neeleman and Portuguese businessman Humberto Pedrosa) invested in the company was injected should stay with the airline for 30 years.

According to the newspaper, in June 2017, the government of António Costa guaranteed Atlantic Gateway the right to receive the money before the 30-year deadline, in the event of a blockade or non-compliance of Parpública, which concentrated the shares held by the state in TAP.

Paulo Raimundo said he still did not understand why the PS and BE “derailed” the CDU’s proposal to extend the ongoing Commission of Inquiry into TAP, arguing that with the extension it would be possible to accelerate the company’s privatization process. clarify.
