The PCP yesterday released the “Project Resolution” that will be discussed at the National Conference that the party will hold at the Alto do Moinho Municipal Pavilion, in Corroios (Seixal County, Setúbal District), on November 12-13.
The text that has now been released has open content and any militant can propose changes, a right that conference participants and party organizations will also attend. The PCP leadership expects between 900 and 1,000 delegates, elected by the party’s base.
In the document, the PCP essentially summarizes the vision that characterizes the party in both national and international affairs. At the national level, the PS is accused of “concretizing” a “right-wing policy”, whereby the PSD, CDS, Chega and IL have “retrograde, demagogic, neoliberal and fascist agendas” that “are a threat to the workers and the people and the future of the country”.
At the international level, “imperialism is increasing its offensive”, and “the war in Ukraine and its expansion”, as well as “the increasing tension and provocation against China”, are part of a strategy of “increasing promotion of fascism” and war” which “brings the danger of a global confrontation”
In other words, “Life has given and given reason to the PCP, his assessment of the national and international situation, the dangers he warned about and the maneuvers he denounced, the solutions and responses needed to improve the the living conditions of the workers and the people, to the indispensable options to ensure the sovereign development of the country”.
What is therefore needed is an “alternative, patriotic and left-wing policy” and this “requires the strengthening of the party, the intensification of the struggle of workers and populations and the strengthening of mass organizations, as well as the convergence of democrats and patriots”, all “determining conditions for a change in the balance of power”.
“It is necessary to move resolutely towards the structuring, leadership capacity and intervention of local party organizations” [e] moving forward [no] rejuvenation of the active and guiding nuclei.”
Now, according to the authors of the document – approved at the last meeting of the Central Committee – “strengthening the PCP” means “connecting the party even more to life”: “It is essential to continue taking steps to ensure that organizations and militants , in the most diverse fields and work fronts, assert themselves as tools of clarification, organization, agitation and mobilization of others around their aspirations”.
For this it is important to “strengthen the party with the responsibility and training of new cadres”, i.e. “militants of different generations”, but also “new militants” who, “starting of course from different availability, paths and experiences, have a willingness to participate and make your contribution”.
It is a matter of “putting in the hands of more militants the responsibility to be protagonists and builders of the party and of the struggle for a better life”, based on an objective: “Promote the responsibility of 1000 new cadres – with the emphasis on workers and other workers, youth and women – for regular tasks and party organizations until the end of 2024”.
This responsibility of new cadres should center on the cells of militants in companies – because “in companies and workplaces the struggle between work and capital is most directly manifested”.
Furthermore, it is also “necessary to move resolutely towards the structuring, leadership and intervention capacity of local party organizations” and “progress” in the “rejuvenation of active and leadership cores”.
Improving the dissemination of the party’s message is also a priority and a “national initiative” will be held for this in November 2023.
