The parliamentary leader of the PS on Wednesday accused the chairman of the PSD of “abuse of power” and “interference in the decisions” of the TAP investigative committee, since “there are limits to the lack of state feeling” .
Eurico Brilhante Dias spoke in parliament after PSD leader Luís Montenegro defended that ministers who refuse to send documents requested by the investigative committee to TAP are guilty of qualified disobedience.
According to the PS parliamentary leader, what is required of the opposition leader of a party that was once a government is “state feeling”, which, according to the socialist, means that he must “respect” the TAP investigative committee. .
“It is the second time that the leader of the PSD interferes with the decisions of the Commission of Inquiry,” he accused, as the statements of the chairman of the PSD today “are abuses and abuses of power”.
For Eurico Brilhantes Dias, this position of Luís Montenegro “is regrettable and shows a lack of preparation to lead institutions”.
“There are limits to statelessness,” he shot.
The PSD accused the government of “acting outside the law” for refusing to send the TAP Commission of Inquiry the opinions that gave “legal support” to the CEO’s resignation for cause, and asked for an urgent meeting for today.
The PSD request reported today by the Lusa agency quotes the response that came from the ministries of Fernando Medina and João Galamba.
“Resolution of the General Assembly of the Republic No. 7/2023 of February 14 was approved on February 3, 2023 to establish a Commission of Inquiry to conduct political oversight of the management of TAP SGPS and TAP SA. delimited (cf. subparagraphs a) to g) of said resolution) and, as well as the time horizon (period between 2020 and 2022)”, they refer.
According to the same government response, “the required information does not fall within the scope” of the legal regime of parliamentary investigations, “by extending the above-mentioned purpose of the parliamentary inquiry commission and/or referring to facts after the respective constitution.
Already this morning, the government justified – through a note to Lusa from the office of the Deputy Minister and Parliamentary Affairs, Ana Catarina Mendes – the refusal to send the TAP Commission of Inquiry the legal opinions that supported the dismissal of the company’s former CEO with the need to “protect the public interest”.
Montenegro finds PS accusation of abuse of power stupid and laughable
Luís Montenegro has already reacted to the PS position, classifying it as foolish and “for a laugh”. “Abuse of power? That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Why abuse of power? For assuming, in the name of the PSD, the representativeness that the PSD has in Portuguese society? I’m here to do nothing.”replied the leader of the PSD.
As for the allegations of interfering with the work of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI), Montenegro found them “to laugh”. “If there is interference in the CPI, then it is the government. If the PS and the group leader do not speak to their deputies, it is an internal matter of the PS, which the leaders speak about, there is no doubt about it”ironed.
At the end of a visit to Beatriz Ângelo Hospital in Loures, Montenegro reiterated the accusations against the government, believing that “it has no right to make any considerations about the delimitation of the purpose of the CPI” , and again aroused doubt.
“Let’s stop playing political games and answers and counter-answers: is there an opinion or not, what does the opinion say, that’s what matters for the people”he thought as he directly questioned the Prime Minister, António Costa, because the government “obstructs the discovery of the truth”.
