TAP: PS says Montenegro “disqualifies political debate” and accuses it of going “beyond good education”

The PS parliamentary leader defended this Wednesday that the PSD president “disqualifies the political debate” as Montenegro went “beyond good education” in response to socialists’ criticism of the TAP inquiry committee.

Speaking to the Lusa bureau, Eurico Brilhante Dias believed that Luís Montenegro disqualified the political debate “in two ways”: first, by “disqualifying his parliamentary group”, by targeting the deputies with “abuse of power, failure to respect the independence of the parliamentary inquiry committee”.

“And then it disqualifies the political debate because, despite the statements I made, it went beyond what is the proper education with which politicians, people and especially those in positions of responsibility should relate”he added.

Brilhante Dias stated that Montenegro is “experiencing a day when things are not going well, but it does not give the country the right not to treat political opponents with due courtesy”.

“Dr Luís Montenegro, probably very concerned about today’s visit to Belém by the extreme right in parliament, eventually adopted a style that we are more used to hearing in other parliamentary benches and in other parties, but parliamentary debate is not qualified as not defending arguments, but rather making statements that are neither courteous nor respectful of the minimum courtesy we are dealing with”rounded.

The exchange of arguments began after the PSD leader defended on Wednesday that ministers refusing to send documents requested by the investigative committee to TAP are guilty of qualified disobedience, and are challenging the speaker of parliament to, if the government does not withdraw , to act. .

Speaking at a press conference at the national headquarters of the PSD, Luís Montenegro believed that it means “a complete disruption of the constitutional balance of power” that the government refuses to send the opinions that gave “legal support” to the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) to dismiss the resignation for urgent reasons from the former general director of TAP, Christine Ourmières-Widener, requested by the Social Democrats and unanimously approved.

Later, the PS parliamentary leader accused the PSD chairman of “abuse of power” and “interference in the decisions” of the Commission of Inquiry into TAP, as “there are limits to the lack of state feeling”.

According to Brilhante Dias, what is required of the opposition leader of a party that was once a government is “a sense of state”, which the socialist says means that he must “respect” the TAP Commission of Inquiry.

In response to these statements, Luís Montenegro classed the accusation made against him by the parliamentary leader of the PS of abuse of power and interference in the parliamentary committee of inquiry as foolish and “for laughs”.

“Abuse of power? That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Why abuse of power? For assuming, in the name of the PSD, the representativeness that the PSD has in Portuguese society? I’m here to do nothing.”Montenegro replied.

As for the allegations of interfering with the work of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI), Montenegro found them “to laugh”.

“If there is interference in the CPI, then it is the government. If the PS and the group leader do not speak to their deputies, it is an internal matter of the PS, which the leaders speak about, there is no doubt about it”ironed.
