Chega president André Ventura said on Wednesday that the president of the republic assured him that he would not impede a government solution involving his party.
“The President of the Republic shall not hinder any form of government participation by Chega, the President of the Republic shall not hinder the formation of a government if the political parties accept to form that government, if the base of the parties accept it, and if there is this availability and ability to form a majority on the right”he claimed.
Chega’s leader spoke to journalists in Palácio de Belém, in Lisbon, at the end of an audience of about 35 minutes with the president of the republic.
André Ventura – who had already said he would ask Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa for this clarification following last week’s news – said what he heard was “particularly important and satisfying”.

When asked if he no longer believes the head of state forced the PSD leader to say he would not accept government solutions with Chega, an accusation made by Ventura on Tuesday, he replied: “The President of the Republic conveyed to me in a clear and direct manner that he had nothing to do with that, that his position is this, and that he will not interfere with Enough in the government.”
