The government on Thursday approved the National Strategy to Counter Terrorism with the aim of strengthening mechanisms to prevent and combat this phenomenon, taking into account the ongoing challenges of the terrorist threat and violent extremism.
The statement of the Council of Ministers states that the National Counter-Terrorism Strategy is an update of the document adopted in 2015, namely with regard to the strategic objectives and lines of action, with “the aim of neutralizing the threat of terrorism and violent extremism and reducing vulnerabilities, through the implementation and strengthening of mechanisms to prevent and combat the phenomenon in all its aspects and manifestations”.
The government also points out that the review of the strategy stems from “the need to ensure an adequate response to the ongoing challenges of the terrorist threat, the intensification of ideological radicalization and the resurgence of violent extremism and terrorist activities”.
