Brazilian President Lula da Silva is traveling to Madrid after his speech at the Assembly of the Republic and will not attend the April 25 memorial event, official Brazilian sources confirmed.
“The information we received was that the president had been invited to a special session for him so that he could address the assembly,” he said. confirmed at a press conference at the Itamaraty Palace in Brasília, the Secretary for Europe and North America, Ambassador Maria Luisa Escorel de Moraes, when questioned by Lusa.
“In principle, he would already leave for Madrid and not participate in the April 25 memorial session. This is the information I have at the moment,” added the Brazilian diplomat who will be present in Lula da Silva’s entourage.
The Brazilian president will leave Brasilia at 10 p.m. this Thursday (2 a.m. Friday in Lisbon) and would land in the Portuguese capital on Friday morning for a five-day state visit.
Lula da Silva’s schedule in Portugal begins Saturday at 10:30 am with the welcome ceremony with military honors at Praça do Império in Lisbon and ends on Tuesday, April 25 at the Assembly of the Republicin a session organized for him that precedes the solemn session commemorating 25 April.
Lula da Silva then heads to Madrid with an agenda that includes meetings with the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, Filipe VI of Spain and even a business forum.
