The leader of the IL opined on Monday that the prime minister is in charge of “exhausting his own political solution”, “being in constant election campaigning” and presenting measures because “he feels the country is running away from him”.
“I leave here convinced that the PS is in a dynamic to destroy its own solution.Rui Rocha told journalists at the end of an audience with the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
For the president of IL, the absolute majority “stops solving the country’s problems at all” and only leaves António Costa “tempted to cling to power without benefiting the country”.
“António Costa is responsible for exhausting his own political solution”he charged, reiterating that “the continuity of this political solution is detrimental”.
Rui Rocha also criticized “a prime minister who was completely focused on his own party, talking within his party, with no options, no solutions for the country”.
“What I have said to the President of the Republic is that the liberal initiative is part of the solution. A solution is not to change a government to change so that everything remains the same, but because the country must change and this stagnation,” he said, since it is the responsibility of liberals at the moment to present solutions and proposals to the Portuguese.
Asked about possible appointments after the election, the leader of the IL stated that he was “very clear” and that this absolves him “from repeating successively everything related to it”.
“IL was very clear with who is understood and who is not understood and so this gives IL the freedom to discuss the future of the country and that’s why I don’t have to respond systematically to that because I’ve already been very clear,” he stressed .
Rui Rocha has always said he refuses to integrate any government solution involving Chega.
For the liberal president, “there is a clear breakdown of institutions”, and there is an urgent need to “appreciate effort, success and work” and properly compensate those who work in Portugal.
“It is necessary to say once and for all: let the Portuguese work, and the PS has not done that, it has prevented the Portuguese from working, realizing themselves, growing with the country,” he criticized.
Asked about the news released today by Jornal de Notícias about the departure of 14 militants from the Conservative wing who challenge the party’s identity policies, Rui Rocha began by saying that the IL has “a very clear political program and very clear electoral programs”. .
“It is true that we have news of the departure of 14 people, but since the convention in January, the number of new members of the Liberal Initiative has increased by dozens and therefore the balance I make is positive. The party is growing,” said he.
Therefore, for the leader of the IL, these people who are leaving the party have “all the legitimacy to do this” because “they don’t see themselves”, and it is also “legitimate for this Executive Committee to defend what was approved at the National Convention”.
In early March, the President of IL requested an audience with the President of the Republic regarding the lack of early mobility votes in Madeira’s regional offices, and appealed to the authorities of that Autonomous Region to proceed with this possibility, a concern that led to Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and which, according to him, had managed to raise awareness.
