Galamba port. IL asks Costa if it is normal for the government to call the SIS in cases like this

Tonight, the Liberal Initiative sent questions to the Prime Minister, António Costa, asking about the intervention of the SIS (Information and Security Service) in the case of the computer allegedly stolen by João Galamba’s former deputy, Frederico Pinheiro.

As we reported (HERE), after the exonerated adviser improperly removed the government-owned computer he was using from the ministry building — supposedly by force — he eventually returned it to an SIS agent , a service that he has meanwhile been called upon to intervene.

In a document accessed by DN, the IL faction recalls that the law obliges SIS to “communicate to the competent authorities for criminal investigation and for taking criminal action the facts that can be configured as criminal offenses, whereby is guaranteed what is in the legal provisions on state secrecy”.

Since this amount of information depends on the prime minister, IL asks the head of government why his infrastructure minister decided to “report directly to SIS the theft of an asset, even if it may represent or contain secret documents”.

IL even asks: “Is it customary for the government to give instructions to the intelligence services so that they carry out acts typical of entities with police functions, even if the law and the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic prohibit this?”

“Shouldn’t the Ministry of Infrastructure report this event to the Prime Minister before it can contact SIS directly?” or contains secret documentation, even with the express permission of the Prime Minister”.

Galamba summoned to the parliamentary committee

The Liberal initiative also requested to anticipate “with the utmost urgency” the hearing of the Minister of Infrastructure, João Galamba, in the TAP Commission of Inquiry, in Parliament, following the facts made public this Friday in relation to the resignation of Deputy Sheriff Frederico Pinheiro. Allegations which IL classifies as “very serious” in the application submitted to Parliament.
