Pension reform: Edouard Philippe affirms that it is necessary to decide “quickly” on the method

Invited this Saturday to the MoDem summer universities, Édouard Philippe said that it was necessary to decide “quickly” on the method of pension reform.

“Let’s decide quickly” on the method to reform pensions, launched this Saturday Édouard Philippe, invited, as the secretary general of the Renaissance Stéphane Séjourné, by François Bayrou to the summer universities of the MoDem where the three allies competed in kindness.

The hypothesis of a pension reform through an amendment to the social security financing bill, mentioned by Emmanuel Macron, divides the majority. François Bayrou warned against a “forced approval” and MoDem deputies indicated that they would vote “certainly against” such an amendment.

“François (Bayrou) said very clearly, it is perfectly respectable, and moreover it is based on often fair analysis, his position. I said it with the same concern as François to come to reform, and the same reading of the difficulties that he pointed out, that whatever happens, we will firmly support the government. But let’s decide quickly,” said Édouard Philippe.

“Let’s not let this issue get sidetracked, this hesitation. Let’s decide fast and go fast or go a little slower, but let’s say how we are going to do it, we don’t need to add hesitation to an issue that is already complicated, it seems to me,” added the former prime minister.

Majority meeting next week

Emmanuel Macron will meet next week with Elisabeth Borne, the leaders of the majority and the interested ministers to take stock of how to start the pension reform, the delegation of the head of state announced this Saturday.

“We all know the landing point. We have the right to have discussions about how we go there, that does not bother me, and these discussions are quite healthy in a majority,” said the secretary general of the Renaissance. presidential party, Stéphane Séjourné.

“If we want it to last, we must know how to give life to this group with its different sensitivities, and I will also be the guarantor in my place,” he added.

“The alliance”, declared François Bayrou, “presupposes reciprocal esteem, a sense of solidarity and freedom of expression”.

“It may happen that there are nuances between movements. It is very important that the French measure the duty of freedom that is ours, that of each of the formations” of the majority. But these nuances “do not affect in any way the necessary solidarity for me. Simply, it is for the French a guarantee of authenticity”, according to the head of Modem.
