The departures from the territory, whether voluntary or forced by foreigners in an irregular situation, have increased by 20% in the first eight months of 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year, the Agence France-Presse (AFP) of the Ministry of Interior.
From January to August 2022, according to figures from the Ministry of the Interior, there were 12,708 departures from the territory (compared to 10,574 during the same period in 2021), half of which (7,627) were forced departures.
Among the forced departures, 3,083 occurred to third countries such as the Maghreb countries, 46% more than in the same period of 2021.
A new asylum and immigration bill
For all of 2021, according to data from Place Beauvau, all “expulsions” of foreigners in an irregular situation increased by 8.2% compared to 2020 (13,403 vs. 12,384) but remained far from the pre-Covid level of 2019, with 23,746 evictions
On September 15, before the prefects, President Emmanuel Macron announced that the new bill on asylum and immigration drawn up by the Minister of the Interior would be presented at the beginning of 2023.
Gérald Darmanin had pressed for this text to be examined by Parliament at the beginning of October, but had to announce its postponement, at the request of Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne.
