The CDS-PP tonight again questioned the intervention of the Information and Security Service in the recovery of the computer of the former deputy of the Minister of Infrastructure, João Galamba, and questioned the independence of the Information System Supervisory Board of the Portuguese Republic (SIRP), which this afternoon cleared the government and SIS of all wrongdoing in the case.
For the centrists, “knowing that the Supervisory Board now planning to exonerate the government includes former minister Constança Urbano de Sousa, replaced in October 2017, and former secretary of state for justice Mário Belo, replaced in March 2022, not exactly behind the independence of that body,” read a note to the editors.
The CDS-PP recalls that “the SIS is legally prohibited from exercising police functions” and considers the “lightness with which the Head of Government approaches the matter” as “absolutely unsustainable”, taking into account that the “Secretary General of the SIRP directly dependent on the Prime Minister, equivalent to Secretary of State”.
“It is therefore not possible, under penalty of violating legal and constitutional provisions, especially when government equipment is at stake, used by a minister’s deputy, that the SIS acted directly, without the knowledge of the Prime Minister or him the correct information.” “, insists the CDS, contradicting the position made public this afternoon by the Supervisory Board.
“For the CDS, this story has clearly been told very badly,” reads the note signed by the party’s chairman, Nuno Melo.
