Catarina Martins: “It’s up to Marcelo and Costa to get Portugal out of the swamp”

The national coordinator of the Bloco de Esquerda, Catarina Martins, this Thursday blamed Marcelo and António Costa for the “trick” that led the country to the “swamp”.

In Brussels, on the sidelines of an event by the European left, Catarina Martins questioned the government’s legitimacy for what she classifies as a lack of credibility to address the country’s problems and demanded that Costa or Marcelo, one of the two, choose between the “two exits” possible for the political climate prevailing in Portugal.

“In the scenario of an absolute majority, there are, so to speak, only two ways out: either the President of the Republic decides to dissolve the parliament, to call elections (…), or the government has the capacity to deal with the absolute majority it must reinvent itself, reorganize itself, show another project to the country,” he said, guaranteeing that “the Left Bloc will be prepared for whatever happens”

For now, he understands that “it is necessary to give the government credibility, because a government that has been discredited or in which lying is a modus operandi is a government that does not every day have democratic legitimacy to act and therefore has difficulties to in acting,” he said. , while claiming solutions for “human lives”.

“We also need a political decision on people’s lives and we need a decision in fundamental areas, housing, health, education, you know, we are currently paralyzed with the country,” he lamented, sharing responsibilities between António Costa and Marcelo Rebel D. ‘Souza. Therefore, according to him, it is up to them to find a way out of the current political climate.

“At the moment it is in the hands of the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister to get Portugal out of the quagmire it is in,” he criticized, since “we have [porém] it’s a problem”.

“We have [porém] it’s a problem. It’s just that this president of the republic was wanted by this prime minister and the two came together, as you know, for that ploy to get an absolute majority when they decided that elections were needed at a time when they didn’t need were” he criticized.
