Carla Castro steps down as Vice President of IL Bank

IL deputy Carla Castro announced this Friday that she has resigned as deputy leader of the Liberal parliamentary group, as there is no “effective exercise” of the position in terms of participation in strategy, communication and management.

“I hereby give a short note of my resignation as Vice-President of the Parliamentary Bench. I accept the continuity of the mandate after the Convention, including for the unity I defended and defended”wrote on Twitter this morning the candidate who lost the disputed internal elections for the current president of IL, Rui Rocha, in January.

According to Carla Castro, “functions must be exercised effectively”, which in this case means “participation in strategy, communication and management”.

“Not being what is happening, and not being in office politics, I have submitted my resignation”justified.

The deputy also explained that she decided to communicate this decision because she “feels an obligation to inform”, reiterating that “unity is very important”, which should be the center of IL’s action.

“There are election promises to be fulfilled, a party to grow and there is a huge need to make Portugal more liberal: they can count on me and there is nothing to prevent pride and honor from working together every day in favor of the commitments for a more liberal Portugal. We keep working”he concluded.

On January 22, for the first time in its history to have more than one list at the top, the new president of the Liberals, Rui Rocha, received 51.7% of the votes of the registered members, while Carla Castro’s list 44% of the votes received. the votes, and that of José Cardoso 4.3%.

The IL convention was a long, tense and divided meeting, but despite the exchange of accusations and the tense atmosphere, Rui Rocha and Carla Castro shook hands at the end and the deputy then assured Lusa that she would not be an opposition to the new president , who said he would work with as the party leaves the convention “stronger” and “won’t be the same”.

A few days after the convention, on January 26, the IL parliamentary group decided to renew confidence in its president and vice president, Rodrigo Saraiva and Carla Castro, respectively, who had vacated their seats after the internal elections.
