The pension reform is a “priority” for Elisabeth Borne

The Prime Minister states that the extension of the retirement age is seen as a priority for the government. The method chosen by the executive will be decided “at the end of the week.”

A few days after the deputies return to the hemicycle, Elisabeth Borne reaffirms the departure of the President who wants to go very quickly to vote for the extension of the retirement age.

“This reform (of pensions) is a priority,” judged the Prime Minister on BFMTV-RMC this Monday morning.

Emmanuel Macron decided several weeks ago to accelerate the pension reform to allow its application “from the summer of 2023”.

“We will decide at the end of the week”

Several elements are undecided, such as the precise retirement age at 64 or 65, compared to the current 62.

The method is also debated when two camps collide within the executive. The Elysee advocates a rapid adoption in the social security budget through an amendment. Others, like François Bayrou, fear “a forced step” and ask for a specific bill early next year. “We are not in parts”, the head of the Modem also specified this weekend.

“We will decide at the end of the week (…). We are looking for the best way to launch it in the summer of 2023 and leave room for more dialogue and consultation”, advances Elisabeth Borne on our antenna. this Monday.

The president will meet in the next few days at the Elysee with Élisabeth Borne and several ministers, including Olivier Dussopt, in charge of the reform.
