Director of SIS assumes responsibility for decision to restore former Galamba deputy’s computer

The director of the Security Information Service (SIS), Adélio Neiva da Cruz, took full responsibility in parliament on Thursday for the decision on the action of this service in recovering the computer of the former assistant to the Minister of Infrastructure.

Opposition sources in parliament told Lusa that Adélio Neiva da Cruz, who was being heard behind closed doors at the Constitutional Affairs Committee, told deputies that the order of events was different from what was said at Tuesday’s hearing by the information system’s audit committee. of the Portuguese Republic.

According to the same reports, the Director of the SIS claimed to be aware that classified information was at stake, but without knowing what that information was and the degree of confidentiality, because he took the floor of the Chief of Staff of the SIS Ministry of Infrastructure as credible.

Neiva da Cruz’s hearing lasted about two hours, with no statements to journalists at the end, and the Secretary General of the Information System of the Portuguese Republic (SIRP), Ambassador Graça Mira Gomes, is there from 7:30 p.m. to be heard by Members.

The case, dated April 26, involved allegations against former aide Frederico Pinheiro of physical assault at the Ministry of Infrastructure and the theft of a laptop computer, after he was fired, and controversy intensified as the SIS intervened in the recovery from that computer.

This episode caused a public disagreement between the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and the Prime Minister, António Costa, over the retention of the Minister of Infrastructure, João Galamba, in the government.
