PSD Reminds That “People Don’t Eat Statistics”

PSD deputy Duarte Pacheco defended this Monday that there is “more and more” a “discord between the government and the Portuguese”, arguing that “people don’t eat statistics” and one thing is numbers and “another is day-to-day practice” .

Speaking to the Lusa bureau, the Socialist MEP reacted to the fact that the European Commission had revised upwards the growth forecast for the Portuguese economy for this year to 2.4%, the third highest rate in the eurozone , and also predicted that the Portuguese deficit will decrease this year to 0.1%, the lowest in the euro area.

“We are Portuguese and therefore, whatever is presented as positive for Portugal by any institution, of course we are satisfied. It is another thing to get drunk, we are not. Why? big difference between the country that the Portuguese feel and the country of statistics”to maintain.

Duarte Pacheco stressed that “the country that people feel” is experiencing difficulties in health, education, justice or in the agricultural sector.

“People don’t eat statistics, people don’t treat themselves with statistics, people don’t learn with statistics, police use cars and not statistics to get around and cars are stopped for lack of repair. : that of statistics and that of reality”he said.

For the Social Democrats, “there is a discrepancy between the government and the Portuguese” because “People are realizing that statistics are one thing – and if they are positive, the better – and their daily life is another, which is getting worse and worse”.

The deputy noted that “it is better to have balanced accounts than not to have them” and “it is better to grow than to have a stagnant economy”, but insisted on the idea of ”false” and replied the Prime Minister, António Costa, who said this Monday that the European Commission’s economic forecasts are good news for Portugal, but warned that it is necessary to “keep pedaling” to keep the Portuguese economy on track.

“The Prime Minister kicks, but it’s not a race bike, he kicks those bikes in the gym, where he kicks, kicks, kicks, but doesn’t leave the same place. He might even expend a lot of energy, he could get even more elegant, but that’s irrelevant to the Portuguese. What is relevant is that everyday problems have been solved.”insisted.
